great bed for the priceMar 04, 2010 Shipping was very fast, as it only took about 3 business days to arrive. It comes vacuum packed, and rolled up length-wise, so the resulting 8' x 1' tube can still be a little hard to maneuver. From what I have read, foam mattresses all have a chemical smell, and this one is no different. (sorta smells like paint) I recommend you air it out for at least 24 hours before you sleep on it. I was too excited to try it out, so I slept on it the first night, and I had a pretty good headache the next day from the smell/fumes. After about 2~3 days, the smell isn't too bad. After a week of airing it out every day (taking off the sheets during the day, leaving the windows open etc), the smell is almost gone. The bed comes with a very soft removable/washable cover, that has a grippy underside. I haven't had any issues with getting too hot while asleep on this mattress, as some people do on memory foam.
I would suggest that you find a store where you can try out the feel of a memory foam mattress. (it's not for everyone) Some people love it, some people don't. The foam in this mattress is very dense, so the mattress feels pretty firm when you first lie down. As it slowly conforms to your body, it continues to get more and more comfortable. It will take some getting used to, especially if you're used to sleeping on a pillowtop. Overall, it was a little too firm for me, (although I didn't really take the time to try and get used to it) so I decided to add a less dense 2 inch memory foam topper to this, that I bought at Target, and it's just awesome. It makes the bed much more comfortable, to me.
Another thing, (that you may or may not care about) is that the foam in this mattress comes from China. I have no idea if the foam is better, worse, or the same as foam from the US. Just be aware that there are people out there on the inter~web who feel that memory foam is more toxic than a regular mattress in general, and that foam from China is potentially even more dangerous, because it might not be regulated the same way as in the US. Personally, I was ok with it. Just do your research, and make a decision that you feel comfortable with.
Lastly, some people rave about the amazing sleep they're getting after buying this mattress. I would lower your expectations. If you have trouble sleeping, a new mattress probably isn't going to be a magic bullet. Getting better sleep has much more to do with exercising more, and lowering your caffeine intake, than it does with your mattress. Still, I really do like this mattress and I'm very happy I bought it. I feel it's a really great value, considering what other brands are charging for basically the same thing.
Best bed I've ever bought.Jan 24, 2010 My partner and I purchased bed after bed spending literally thousands on other beds. We purchased the highest end of the high end traditional materesses and memory foam toppers. This mattress totally took the cake when it came to getting a good nights sleep. We've now had it for a couple of years and it's still as comfortable as the day we got it. I love this thing and will definately buy my next mattress from the same company.

Pleased with the purchase but a tad too warmJan 22, 2010 I have shopped a memory foam mattress both locally and online. The better deals online were too much of a roll of the dice. I suspect I trust Amazon feedback way too much but I felt better buying here.
The mattress itself feels like about all of the mattresses I tried out locally. Some of which cost 3 times what I paid for this one. I am a big guy so I needed firm and it appears to be firm enough. I have to say shipping was swift too. Just a few days. All praise and no complaints so far.
Edit** 1-25-2010
After a few nights I do have one complaint. This mattress gets too warm for comfort. I am trying to adjust but after a couple of hours of sleep, I get uncomfortably warm. So far, all cover ends up in the floor after a couple hours of sleep. It's odd to go to sleep so comfortably and wake up so hot. It being winter now, I am concerned about how uncomfortable it will be in the spring/ summer. After reading some more on memory foam, this appears to be a common problem with some brands.
EDIT** 1-29-2010
So I have adjusted. Either the mattress isn't as warm now or I have a tolerance for it. Either way, I am sleeping better than I have for years and I am very glad I bought the thing. The smell seems to be gone as well.

just perfectJan 19, 2010 At $579, this mattress is the best deal out there. I bought this after reading all 13 previous reviews and they are all exactly right. The 5.5lb density is pretty firm- I was afraid at first it would be TOO firm. We are both bigger people around the middle, and we both LOVED sleeping on it. So feeling how firm it is with your hand can be a bit mis-leading- it is SUPER comfortable. I sleep all over- on my sides, on my back, and now with this mattress I can even sleep on my stomach, which hasn't been comfortable for me on a "regular" mattress since about high school. It's 2 layers: 3 inches of the elastic memory foam (which is body-heat sensitive- the latex memory foam is not) and then 7" of "High Resilience Polyurethane Base Foam." It expanded to full size very quickly. We slept on it about 3 hours after opening it and the smell that everyone talks about wasn't too bad. This morning the smell was totally gone, and it wasn't that bad to begin with. The transfer of motion is almost totally gone as well. We used to sleep on a regular mattress with a memory foam topper, and I always thought that was "just as good." Trust me, it's NOT. We were always waking each other up. Now we can both move around and the other one doesn't feel a thing, and therefore doesn't wake up. Even our dogs getting on and off the bed all night didn't wake me up. One thing to note is the warranty. It does not cover shipping costs, comfort (ie: if you don't like how firm or soft it is, too bad), does not cover the zipper, and is voided if the mattress is at all stained, scuffed, otherwise damaged, and if it was not kept on a flat solid surface (ie putting it on a slatted base or regular box springs will void the warranty). If you can check out what density you like at a local store beforehand that would probably be best. We lucked out and happened to like the firmness without knowing beforehand how it would be, so we won't be returning it anytime soon. Ours arrived on the first day of the shipping window, vacuum sealed, then wrapped in 3 layers of heavy plastic and tied with 4 straps. It was not damaged at all, and was really easy to un-wrap and lay out. We have absolutely no complaints. I'm recommending it to all our friends and anyone who reads this.
One last thing before I forget, as another review stated- memory foam and the base foam soak up spills like a crazy sponge. The reason we bought this was because our new dog peed on our old memory foam mattress pad, which was only 4 inches thick- and we just could NOT clean it. I tried EVERYTHING, and ended up basically SOAKING half the mattress pad in kids'n'pets cleaner, to no avail. It still smelled and was still stained. I can't BEAR the thought of spilling anything on the new mattress (seriously, even a little tiny spill will be obnoxious), so we are getting a plastic cover (which also cuts down on dustmites, which I am highly allergic to), and I recommend to anyone who buys this or any other memory foam product to get a plastic cover for it. Otherwise one tiny spill can ruin your investment.

moved down to a better mattressFeb 10, 2009 I have a platform king sized bed. My simmons $1200 mattress gave out after about 7 years. I had been having problems sleeping the last few weeks, waking up and tossing/turning all night. In the morning I had a sore back and was very tired. I bought this mattress after reviewing on web only. It was delivered in 6 days. Upon opening, there was an odor which was not that bad. After only 4 days it is mostly disappeared. As for sleeping, each progressing night has been an improvement. The last two nights, I barely moved from the spot where I fell asleep. I am well satisfied. Don't get me wrong, my simmons was a great mattress for at least 5 years. I don't know how long a mattress should last but it seems a better value to pay this price than the $1200 for the simmons. This mattress is not as thick as the simmons was. It is firm but the memory foam does provide cushioning and feels great to me - but I like a firm mattress. I would consider a thicker foam mattress if you want one that is softer.
